“Hans” is a project dedicated to the phenomenon of self-documentation, a fundamentally human and everyday method of preserving memories and finding meaning. Memories are collected and physically recorded in the form of photographs and texts. The curation of one’s own life story through the selection and the preservation of such artefacts makes it possible to construct a coherent narrative of one's own life and to form an identity. The dialogue with Hans Fischer as well as the analysis of his life and collecting habits provided an insight into this phenomenon. By transposing his collection into a publication, a complex self-documentation was made accessible, on which also examines how it has been shaped by personal biography.
