Part of the Problem or Part of the Solution? On the Possibilities and Limits of Action of Designers in Times of Crisis
Man-made climate change and the increasing concentration of wealth in the hands of a few are leading to worldwide migration movements. Democratic structures are becoming porous, while violence, oppression and currently war are becoming a reality in Europe. Fears and feelings of powerlessness are part of the reality of life for many people—their own sphere of action seems too small. In a time that postulates action as impossible, the question of the possibilities and limits of action of designers in times of crisis arises. In the field of tension between work, design and crisis, perspectives and possibilities open up that transfer the sphere of action of designers into the context of sociopolitical participation.
