Ursprünglich Grotesk

This project examines the “Ursprüngliche Grotesk” typeface group, which dates back to the late 1950s. It seeks to explore new approaches and possibilities within familiar settings by utilizing unusual combinations of technical and aesthetic means.

Grotesque typefaces have evolved over time, adapting to new requirements and technological changes. Although originally a strange display typeface, the grotesque is now a versatile and commonly used tool of visual communication, whose aesthetics may appear ordinary. However, by exaggerating the means analyzed in this project, a necessary dualism is created to question the sense of the grotesque and to highlight its boundaries with normative values and characteristics.
