Visual Communication

Dive is a typeface inspired by the lettering of the England national team kit between 1999 and 2003. It began with a close study of their distinctive qualities: Compressed rhythm, low contrast, open shapes and inconsistent serifs, combining optimal readability (a player’s name on their back to read from distance and in motion) with a sense of identity tied to heritage and national representation. Those are expanded through an optical size axis with adjustments in contrast, proportions and stylistic features to optimize the use of the typeface in different sizes.
