The research focus “Making Things Public” in the research unit Visual Communication is devoted to exploring the narration and visualisation of complex topics in order to make these accessible to a wider audience. Our research leverages methodologies from various domains, including data visualisation, visual analysis, communication, narrative theory and the psychology of perception to construct visually compelling and tangible representations. The aim of this research is to facilitate comprehension and knowledge dissemination across diverse demographics, surmounting linguistic and social barriers. Through this, we aim to find new ways to bridge the divide between complexity and accessibility, thereby bolstering informed decision-making and enabling society to engage in crucial debate.
