The research focus “New Worlds” within the research unit Visual Communication represents inquiries into the multifaceted dimensions of world building as well as the interdependence between living and non-living beings. Research projects draw on a wide range of disciplines, including literature, anthropology, environmental studies, politics and philosophy, to delve into the complexities of crafting speculative futures and being responsive to other worlds. Our research investigates how these spaces intersect with and reflect upon ecological, cultural, and ethical concerns, and how more-than-human perspectives challenge human-centred and universalist views to reshape our understanding of design, its role and responsibilities.
