Workshop with Joost Grootens
Graphic Design has been shaped by the technologies to create, edit, produce and distribute visual information. The major changes in the field and practices of recent decades originated in changes in technology. The tools determine the role and the position of the designer in the production of visual information. The workshop's aim was to highten the awareness about design tools. The goal was not to investigate the graphic qualities but to research the political, social, environmental and economical aspects of the utensils, machines and apps designer use to create their work. Research was done in seven tools selected from an inventory of the devices most used by the students. These explorations form the chapters of the atlas of design tools.
